I am very excited to announce that this semester I will have the opportunity of a lifetime. I am interning at Dolce & Gabbana's (US) public relations department and I could not be more excited! This amazing team of women has brought so much to the fashion world. In almost every magazine you will see a model in Dolce & Gabbana, at every award show a celebrity in Dolce & Gabbana, even Queen B herself wore Dolce at her infamous VMA performance where she revealed her pregnancy. The italian luxury brand is iconic and the clothing timeless. I'm very excited to work and learn from such an amazing PR team.

So today I celebrate this internship by sharing with you some amazing Dolce & Gabbana: the beautiful collections, the many magazine covers, red carpets and performances that featured some amazing pieces by the brand. Enjoy! xx

Pre-Fall Pretty

If these pre-fall collections are supposed are supposed to get us excited for next month's fashion weeks then unfortunately I must say that I'm not too impressed with them. Of course, there was lots of great work and there's still some more to come, but in my opinion the majority of the collections lacked real creativity, were too trendy, and not very brave. How many times do we have to see a different version of a leopard coat, a lace dress, leather shorts? It's a new year, let's see some new designs! That said, there were two pre-fall collections that really stood out in my mind, Givenchy & Prabal Gurung.

Givenchy

I love Givenchy's feminine military woman for pre-fall. Edgy cuts and materials such as leather were mixed in with colorful florals and tall leather boots to create a hard-ass real woman for this collection. The shape of the boots are different, the models can work them, not sure women would thighs could, but they work well with this collection. I'm excited to see what Givenchy has in store for us for the fall!

Prabal Gurung

Season after season Gurung continues to impress and pre-fall is no exception. The metallic forrest greens and light pinks work well with the feminine dresses and the form fitting pencil skirts and suits. I also love that little touch of fur. The overall collection looks super chic and I'm excited to see what's to come from Prabal Gurung.

Remembering Eve Arnold

This past a week a pioneering female photojournalist, Eve Arnold, past away at 99 years old. In the 50s when most women were housewives, Arnold was traveling the world and meeting some of the most famous and influential people of the 20th century- from politicians to actresses, she saw it all and captured it through her lens. Her photos remain to be some of the most iconic of the time period, even of the century. Today A Hit of Sarah remembers Arnold with some of her most memorable work.

Arizona Muse looks like a glamorous rockstar in her editorial for the current issue of Vogue Paris...and a damn fine one at that. I'm very happy to see that French Vogue is not holding back this year, Inez & Vinoodh did an amazing job with this shoot. Everything about it- the fashion, the model, the color- is fierce, hard and sexy. I hope to see more of these edgy editorials.

Is Dakota Fanning old enough for me to say that she looks reaaally sexy in her Elle UK editorial? Because she looks...amazing. For their first issue of the year Elle UK chose the young and talented Dakota Fanning as their cover star. Shot by photographer, David Slijper, Dakota sports sultry red lips, beautiful clothing, and poses in a sudle suggestive manner. Whether she's old enough or not Dakota is clearly no longer a "child star". Watch out young Hollywood, you have a new, yet very seasoned competitor.

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone enjoyed the holiday season. Now that it's over and we're in a new year many people have made resolutions. I have made many and a lot of them pertain this blog! I have vowed to post 25 times a month and will start producing more of my own photography. I'm super excited about that.

Another resolution that I share with many is to lose weight, get back in shape, and live a healthier lifestyle. Exercising regularly is a huge part of that, which means it's time to rejoin the gym. As a former employee of Equinox, which, in my opinion, is one of the nicest gyms in the United States, I was excited to see the release of their 2012 ad campaign. This year, like last, it was shot by none other than Terry Richardson. The models in this sexy shoot are enough to make you want to run to the gym. Blair Waldorf

It's been a while since I've paid tribute to one of my favorite television characters, Miss Blair Waldorf. I just recently caught up on Gossip Girl this season, over dramatic and extremely unrealistic as per usual, but the fashion is still amazing and still keeps me watching! I'm excited for the show's return next year. The first half of the season had a newly pregnant Queen B, who still manages to ravish.

The Best & Worst of 2011

I'm sure that we can all agree that 2011 has been one hell of a year- from the political scandals to the entertainment shockers to the protests taking place around the world, this year has been anything but dull. The fashion industry is no exception. It has also had it's been ups and downs this year- scandals ranging from copyright infringement to racist rants to unnatural looking photoshopping. We've had some great emerging talent as well as some failing talent. I tried this back in 2008 and it has been one of my most popular posts to date! So today I'd like to discuss my best and worst picks for 2011.

Best New Designer: Mary Katrantzou

This year Mary Katrantzou took home the British Fashion Award for emerging talent in womenswear and I completely agree with this decision. Katrantzou has taken fashion to a new level of greatness combining both bold colorful prints and geometric shape. The result is what I believe to be wearable art. So many designers are keeping a minimalist approach and aren't experimenting as much as they used too. This is not the case with Katrantzou. She shows that there is still room for creativity in fashion. She took risks with her collections, but she was successful with them. I hope more designers learn from Katrantzou and show us some more creative and unique collections.

Worst New Designer: Kanye West

Now, I'm not against the whole musician turned designer idea. Many have been successful with it, however, there are some people who should just stick to what they're good at and one of those people is Kanye West. I love Kanye. I think he's a great rapper and musician, very talented and original. I appreciate his interest and love of fashion, however I think he should stick to admiring it, not making it. His debut collection was shown in Paris with a front row that any established designer would kill for, big names in the fashion and entertainment industry were both present at his show. Unfortunately, I don't think that was the best of ideas because he just embarrassed himself infront of the cream of the crop. Kanye's collection was an okay attempt, but what Kanye failed to see was that his models looked big. The clothes did not flatter the bodies of size 0 women and Kanye had the best models in the biz. If your clothes were unflattering on a Victoria Secret model's body then you shouldn't be designing clothes. If they can't wear them then there's no way the rest of us can.

Designer of the Year: Dolce & Gabbana

There are a lot of great designers so saying that one designer was the best of them all is a difficult thing. I based this decision more on the success of the public relations departments and the influence of the collections so with that I chose Dolce & Gabbana. Dolce & Gabbana's fall ready to wear collection may have been one of the most publicized and photographed this year. Appearing in hundreds of magazines world wide and on the bodies of some of the most famous celebrities. This in turn lead to knock offs and cheaper versions of Dolce & Gabbana designs which I have definitely seen this year- the lace tops and dresses were reproduced by many chain stores from Forever 21 to American Apparel to Urban Outfitters. Lace was EVERYWHERE and the trend was jetted by Dolce & Gabbana. Along with lace, the chiffon star print has also been mass produced. A Dolce & Gabbana star print inspired dress was a popular purchase at Primark. The collection has also been styled into many editorials this year including Vogue, 10 Magazine, Harper's Bazaar and many more.

Model of the Year: Andrej Pejic

This one was a no brainer. A Hit of Sarah LOVES Andrej Pejic. Pejic emerged this year as one of fashion's most progressive faces, being able to model both men and womenswear. He looks better in women's clothing more than most women do, which is unfortunate for us, but has made him an industry favorite. This year he appeared in many runways, ad campaigns and editorials for magazines such as LoveCat, Numero, W and many more. I cannot see what Pejic has to offer us next year.

Worst Fashion Scandal: John Galliano vs. DiorUnfortunately, the fashion industry has seen many scandals this year, but the biggest and worst had to be John Galliano's drunk anti-semitic rants. In case you haven't heard about it (impossible), Galliano, one of the fashion industry's most talented designers, was fired from his position at Dior as well as his own namesake label. Not much news has been revealed on what Galliano is up too these days. In fact, the last I saw of him, he was designing Kate Moss's wedding dress, but we are eager to see if he will be able to make a come back.

Photographer of the Year: Terry Richardson

I don't have any statistics but as an avid follower of the fashion industry I strongly believe that Terry Richardson had the most work as a fashion photographer this year. The end of the year saw the release of his book: Gaga x Terry Richardson, which has been receiving a lot of great reviews and press. Along with his work with Miss Gaga, Richardson has been constantly photographing numerous ad campaigns and editorials world wide. This year was the year of Richardson and I hope he is as successful next year as he was in 2011.

Best Dressed: Lady Gaga, Anna Dello Russo, Abby Lee Kershaw

My best dressed list and Vogue's best dressed list have nothing in common. For my best dressed list I chose three women. Women who are recognized as being well dressed but women but who also don't get enough recognition for it. So here I present to you A Hit of Sarah's best dressed for 2011:

Lady Gaga- duh. Please find me one person who is as innovative, creative, and brave in her style choices as Lady Gaga. You can't. If you read my previous post on Monster Fashion then you already know how much I support and admire Lady Gaga's fashion choices. She's a fashion super star. She was born this way.

Anna Dello Russo- She is (excuse the language) fucking brilliant. Fashion editor at large, her style is impecable. Not as crazy as Lady Gaga, but still crazy and everything she wears looks absolutely amazing on her. She can always pull it off. I'm not sure what it is about her but no matter how bold her outfit choices may be I don't think we will ever see ADR on a worst dressed list. She is as brave as she is confident. Go girl!

Abbey Lee Kershaw- Kershaw dresses as well as she does on the runway and in editorials as she does off them. She has great taste in clothing. Although most models don't get recognized for their style I really think that Kershaw should get some recognition for it. Girl knows how to work anything on that model body.

Alexander and the scenery she's photographed in both look stunning. The resulting photographs will be compiled into Pulp Art Book, can't wait to get a copy!

Flappers & Philosophers

Last night I saw and fell in love with Woody Allen's new film, Midnight in Paris. If you haven't seen the film yet and are planning too...be warned, I'm about to spoil it a bit. It seems that something strange happens to Gil (Owen Wilson's character) on his trip to Paris. At midnight he gets into a car and travels back into The Golden Age: Paris in the 1920's. He meets and interacts with big names in the art and literature world: The Fitzgeralds, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, and Gertrude Stein, just to name a few. While doing so Gil meets Adriana, a Parisian art groupie and aspiring costume designer.

Played by Marion Cotillard, Adriana's hair, makeup and stunning wardrobe reminded me of my love for the flapper clothing and lifestyle. The 20s were not only the Golden Age for art, literature and music, but were also a period for revolutionary fashion. It is the first time in history where women liberated themselves from binding, conservative fashion and began dressing more comfortably. During this time women started wearing trousers and shorter skirts for the first time. They cut their hair shorter, drank, smoked and stayed out late. The 20s were an empowering time for women and inspired many feminist movements. It was in the 20s when American women gained the right to vote, Planned Parenthood originated and the Women's Bureau of the Department Labor was formed.

In the 1920s magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue started to become major fashion publications. Although Vogue was first published in 1892, it's up-to-date information did not impact women's interest in fashion until the twenties. Flipping through a 1920s Vogue you can get a glimpse into what French couture and American fashion were like at the time. Like today, you can also see what was needed to be done in order to be fashionable and cultured during the 1920s.

Up to this day designers are still inspired by the fashion of the roaring 20s. Ralph Lauren, who designed the costumes for the original The Great Gatsby film in 1974, modeled his spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection after the time period, half a year before the film's remake. Imitation of Christ designer Tara Subkoff was also inspired by the decade and designed flapper beaded dresses for her spring ready-to-wear collection.

The 1920s were the start of modern day fashion. It was the first time in history where women really started to experiment with the way the dressed. Today the roaring 20s and the flappers that fueled them activated the fashion industry and continue to inspire the fashion world today.

Skinny vs. Healthy (the never ending fashion industry battle)

I posted this Vogue Italia editorial featuring Karlie Kloss yesterday. According to Fashionista the editorial has caused lots of controversy recently. There are claims that Kloss's perfect figure is either heavily photo shopped or that the teen has an eating disorder. I think there is a bit of photo shop involved (I mean, how could her hips turn in like that?), however I don't think Kloss has an eating disorder. Of course, I don't know that for sure, but you can see the definition in her stomach, arms and legs. You get that tone from exercising not from starving.

This is also not the first time Vogue Italia has faced this kind of upset. Only a few months ago Stella Tennant was featured on the cover of the magazine's September issue with a thirteen inch waist. The cover, along with Kloss's editorial, was shot by Steven Meisel. It seems that Vogue Italia is constantly glorifying an incredibly thin figure that is unattainable to most women.

Now I, along with most of Vogue Italia's readers I hope, understand that models are models for a reason. Yes, I believe these women should be admired for their beauty. It's their job. I post editorials all the time depicting the beauty of these models. That is their purpose, that is their job. Personally, I prefer to be admired for my mind not my exterior. Beauty will fade with age, but you will always (at least until you start really losing it) have your wits.

The fashion industry has had this constant struggle: skinny vs. healthy, for years. Models will always be skinny because clothes look best on thin figures. There is no use in denying or fighting it. Personally, I think that a healthy figure is the most attractive. And it's been getting more publicity. Some of today's biggest stars are women with curves: Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj. Every woman has a different shape, embrace it and love your body no matter what. Appreciate the model's figures, but realize that it's not attainable- work with what you got. You and others will appreciate it just as much.

Well, shit. It's impossible to look at Karlie Kloss's naked body and not want to go for a ten mile run. She looks AMAZING in this 18 spread editorial for Vogue Italia. I'm not even sure how Steven Meisel was able to photograph her without getting hot and bothered. Thank you Vogue Italia for the December editorial that will make me start my new years resolution earlier than planned.

If you read my blog regularly then you already know that I'm a huge fan of Harper Smith's photography. She's been featured more and more recently, so I must not be the only one who loves her work. For the current issue of Foam Magazine, Harper Smith photographs Kelley Ash in Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves. I love the theme, setting, and colors of the editorial. The results are beautiful.

MONSTER FASHION: LADY GAGA

Back to Vogue's Best Dressed List, this is the Lady I would have assumed to be number one on their list; Gaga. Although she was honored with the CFDA Fashion Icon award this year, her style is bigger, bolder and better than anyone in the fashion industry right now. She is brave, creative, and original when it comes to hows she's dressed and even when she's not on a stage or red carpet her outfits are still top notch. Here are a few of my favorite Gaga looks for the month of November (but she has so many more!). To see every aspect of all of her outfits detailed check out Gaga Fashionland, anything and everything she wears is sourced on that amazing website.

This particular look got a lot of press from the media and Gaga herself. To the opening of Gaga's Workshop at Barney's, New York, Gaga donned a custom made Chanel gown. You know you're a big deal when Karl designs you a custom Chanel. In her interview with Good Morning America she described it as a wedding dress without groom, perfect. I think it's a spectacular gown, fit for a Queen.

Gaga wore this sexy lace Dolce & Gabbana dress to her 'Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson' book release party at the New Museum in New York. Those amazing platforms are the creation of Noritaka Tatehana. Together they create a sexy and daring ensemble. Very Gaga.

Gaga made a surprise appearance at the 39th annual International Emmy's where she presented the International Emmy Founder's award to Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance". She wore a chic black Stéphane Rolland dress to the event. The dress features a slit big enough to show Gaga's tatted up thigh, super sexy.

Gaga spent the majority of the month in London. Unfortunately, I never saw her. Gaga dressed perfectly for her time here. Here she wears a brightly colored Burberry Prorsum ensemble, you can not get anymore british than that!

This month Gaga didn't weird it up as much as usual, but the Philip Treacy hat she wears leaving ITV studios in London could definitely fall into that category. She pairs the pink head accessory with a bright Roksanda Ilincichead dress. I love love love the dress! The colors are bright, seemingly sixties inspired and the cut is chic, yet casual. Great outfit.

I'm obsessed with everything about this outfit. The canary yellow Osman dress Gaga wears flatters her figure to perfection. I also love the gold Loubatins she pairs it with and those adorable heart shaped sunglasses. Again, this outfit seems to have a little sixties inspiration, which I love. Great look.

Something about this outfit also seems to have a British influence to it. It may be the glasses and the way her hair is parted...a la John Lennon. I love the Moschino top she's rocking. Of course she decided to not wear pants and opt for just fish nets and Loubatin heels, which still don't take away from the outfit. She looks great, as always.

The perfect outfit for London. How great is it that she's not only wearing Chanel pearls and white gloves, but she's actually sipping tea while she's leaving her hotel? Amazing. The dress is a beautifully detailed Aquilano.rimondi creation. She looks adorable.

Gaga steps out in a green and gold Gucci ensemble, which is super chic and looks amazing on her. I love the colors in this look.

Another sixties inspired look, I love it! Here Gaga wears a Michael Kors fur coat, circle sunglasses, fishnets and Mary Janes. This is so London in the sixties. I wonder if she's wearing anything underneath? Probably not haha.

This is another amazing sixties inspired look. Gaga wears a cubed burnt orange colored Georgina Hardinge jumpsuit, Maria Francesca Pepe braided rope belt, and vintage Paloma Picasso sun glasses. I also really love the mermaid umbrella and earrings. She looks uber sixties and very chic. One of my favorite street style looks from Gaga.

For the Bambi awards Gaga wore a stunning Alexander McQueen dress, one of her favorite designers. This look is not something I'd consider "weird" at all. She looks great head wrap and all.

Nadja Sayej - the Queen of Sass at Berlin's ArtStars* and New York Times blogger, Priscilla Obermeier - acclaimed fashion writer and editor for the international fashion and beauty industry, Kyle Kofsky - founder of Everyone Is An Artist agency in Toronto and co-founder of the International Fashion Film Festival (IFFF), Vanja Vasic - the founder and Executive Director of Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week, and Sean St. Lewis - fashion blogger for BerlinSixSenses and renowned stylist for MDR.de, Deutsche Welle and Gallerie LaFayette.

The competition is open to all women, age 18 and over. The aspiring models can apply online through the official Front Row Society Facebook page until the 2nd of December. FRS' high profile judging panel will select their top 10 from the top 25 with the most likes on Facebook. From there, the second and final round moves to the FRS website where the Top 10 girls post a video telling the public about themselves and why they should win. Following the final score, the panel of judges decide on their IT girl and the Face of Front Row is revealed at Berlin Fashion Week!

Came back from Paris yesterday and I absolutely loved it. I wish I never left! I will do a week of posts from all my travels the past few months including Paris, Versailles, Barcelona & Bath. My time abroad is almost at it's end and in less than three weeks I will be on my way back to New York. For now, I figured I'd share LF's winter look book. When I get back to New York LF will be one of the first shops I'll be hitting. The winter collection looks great and the look book is perfection.

Another pair of sisters on Vogue's Best Dressed List this year are Elle and Dakota Fanning. Again, I'm surprised at the amount of attention their getting from the fashion world. Neither of them are even legal yet. Dakota is JUST old enough to drive and Elle is only 13. 13 and on the cover of W and on Vogue's best dressed list. Of course I do think they both have great style, but....they must have stylists right? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that at thirteen my idea of fashion was a Juicy Couture track suit and Birkenstocks. Regardless I love this shoot by Mario Sorrenti for W Magazine's December issue. The blonde teen actresses look stunning. (You can read the article here)

The weather's getting colder, the days are getting shorter and the holiday season is approaching us. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of going holiday shopping. I was a bit surprised by Vogue's decision for best dressed this year, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Now don't get me wrong, I do think the twins dress very well and this year The Row and Elizabeth & James did better than ever before, but in terms of MK and A's personal style, I don't think this year belonged to them. They've done better in years before. Regardless I still think their

If any of you would like to get me a very special gift for the holidays, I'd be delighted if it was one of Free People's limited edition party dresses. Each dress was specially handcrafted and created by a different in-house designer. There were only 50 made of each and they're available online. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they're sold out by now. My favorite is the floor length white dress with sparkly colored details. It's very elegant flapper to me. Hint, hint!

The 1990s. Yes, I'm going there, but to one place in particular-- the posh, sporty, scary and girl power filled place known as SPICE WORLD. One of my biggest aspirations as an eight year old was to become a spice girl or to just somehow transform into an existing one (Baby Spice, was my personal fave). In the late 90s, my parents took us on a trip to London that I could never forget. Throughout this vacation I was actively looking for the Spice Girls hoping they'd magically turn up or we'd "coincidentally" bump into them. I didn't end up meeting any of them, but I was close enough. At the time of their peak, the Spice Girls were EVERYWHERE in London. There were Spice Girls postcards, bubble gum, lollipops, books, etc. I had such a wonderful time there that over ten years later I returned.

And today I remembered what it was that made me want to come back to London-- the fashion. During the 90s it was Spice Girl fashion. And even today, a decade later, their iconic looks are seen on today's pop stars. Even their feminist message- girl power, has inspired the music and styles of Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna and more.

Melanie Brown's Big Curly Hair

Before Scary Spice you would rarely ever see girls rockin' the big curly hair. Today it's turning into a bit of a trend. Both Beyonce and Rihanna frequently don the curly do. I appreciate women who wear big curly hair instead of straightening it. Today the look is considered verrry sexy rather than Melanie B "scary". I dig it.

Gerri Halliwell's Iconic Union Jack dress

Ginger Spice's union jack (just barley a) dress hit iconic status and is considered a symbol of 90s pop culture. The dress was sold at a charity auction and was bought for £41,320 by The Hard Rock Cafe making it the most expensive piece of pop star clothing to ever be sold.

Emma Bunton's Pigtails

Pigtails aren't exactly a trend that Baby Spice started, but it is a trend that she popularized in the 90s. I can vouch for that. I was one of the many girls who tried to look like Baby Spice by wearing pigtails, dresses and platform sneakers (still wish I owned platform sneakers). Today Lady Gaga has been rockin' pigtails for Mugler quite often. Is she bringing them back?

Victoria Beckham, The Fashion Icon

Today Posh Spice, now known by her real name, Victoria Beckham, is considered a modern day fashion icon. Even when she was a spice girl she was considered the best dressed. Her popularity as a stylish pop star in the 90s lead to being on numerous best dressed lists, a book deal, magazine covers and now even her own clothing line.

GIRL POWER

"Girl Power" was a phrase often used by the Spice Girls referring to the feminist empowerment that the group held. It was definitely not something that they had introduced, Madonna promoted a similar movement beforehand, but the Spice Girls version was distinctive. Their message appealed to all females from young girls to adults, and emphasized an importance on female relationships. Like Madonna, the Spice Girls have inspired similar feminist messages heard through the music of Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna and the like.

The Elizabeth & James spring collection is up on their website and boy, does it look good. The Olsens never fail to impress season after season. I really love the bright colors incorporated throughout the collection as well as the oriental looking floral print used in some pieces. I like the pajama inspired tops and pants. I haven't really been into that trend, but the pieces in the Elizabeth & James collection have managed to execute it properly. My favorite items are the yellow wide leg pants, they look like they were 60s inspired and very fun, and the pink visor. I've been seeing a lot of visors for spring and I'm glad they're making a comeback!

Before coming to London I knew leaving New York would also accompany the feeling of being left out. There were some things I was glad I missed out on- Hurricane Irene, Occupy Wall Street (which is going on in the same neighborhood as my university), and the unwanted and unexpected October snow, but then there was also New York Fashion week, which instead of being in attendance for I had to watch threw the lenses of style.com as well as all the fabulous events that go on nightly in the city that never sleeps. One of those fabulous events was The New York Times Fifty Photographs Collection. Luckily I was able to send a friend over to check it out for me.

The New York Times has partnered with five leading fashion designers to delve into its legendary photo archive, which dates back to the late 1800s, and select images that convey elements of their aesthetic and style. Notable designers Prabal Gurung, Zac Posen, Michelle Smith, Diane von Furstenberg and Vera Wang have each chosen 10 captivating images from the archive. This marks the second annual Fifty Photographs collection, for which top tastemakers and style icons curate inspiring photographs from the Times archive. This year, a percentage of sales from the collection will benefit the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

“I selected photography depicting powerful, yet graceful images of dancers in motion, as well as refreshing views of familiar landmarks in New York City,” - Diane Von Furstenberg

“I wanted my selection to be representative of moments in history that have left an indelible mark on our culture and the world. I was inspired by photos, that when displayed in pairs, not only complimented each other aesthetically, but also told a more rounded story.” - Prabal Gurung

Zac Posen turned his eye to space phenomena and “beautiful pollution,” selecting images like an aerial photograph of the Gulf oil spill illuminated by sunlight; “Color Palette” was taken by Rick Perry for The New York Times in May, 2010.

Michelle Smith selected a visually complex photograph that depicts cloth woven in the Scalamandre silk mill on the Jacquard looms. The cloth is gathered in a “ponytail” and forms great texture; complimenting the black and white features. This photo was taken in July of 2004 by Fred R. Conrad.

Vera Wang chose images depicting fashion and theater, such as Aruther Brower’s “Behind the Mask,” a 1965 photograph of a young wig model masked in feathery elegance as onlookers dressed to the nines observe.

The designers’ selections are available for purchase on The New York Times Store’s (www.nytstore.com) photography microsite, with a percentage of sales of the Fifty Photographs collection benefiting the CFDA. Photographs from the collection are on display at Bloomingdale’s 59th Street from November 2 until November 26, located at Designer Collections on 4.

Dolce & Gabbana is everywhere. Everywhere! and I love it so much. Like other editorials featuring the collection this season, 10 Magazine chose to feature it in their fall issue. This editorial stands out from the others, shot by Andreass Larson, the editorial has painted flowers thrown into the photographs that give it an added beauty. And the creepy stare of model, Ylonka Verheul, also adds in some weirdness. Her uncomfortable stare, the beautiful pink flowers and the amazingness of the clothing make for an overall great editorial.

Also, that Stella McCartney gold jacket is EVERYWHERE, actually Stella McCartney in general is everywhere...and I'm not complaining. Love it. Amazing editorial.

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. It's the only day you're allowed to be someone else, someone you're not. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to celebrate it this year, but if I do, I have no problem coming up with something quick. Time is running out. Do you need an idea for a Halloween costume? If so, I got you girl.

Blair Waldorf: My favorite television character of all time. I've actually dressed up as her for Halloween years ago and it's very easy, you could probably do it with the contents of your closet. A headband, blazer and colored tights are a necessity. You could wear a pencil skirt or a school girl looking skirt. I'm thinking Blair's days at Constance.
Jackie O: Our most fashionable first lady since Michelle Obama. Her look is iconic from her hair style, hats and dress suits. As long as you got all those down, you're good and classy.
Holly Golightly: Of course, lots of girls dress like Holly Golightly for Halloween, but I wasn't going to leave that option out because it's a damn good one. You need an up do, a tiara, a cigarette holder is a nice touch and a little black dress. Not so hard to do, but master it and you'll stun.

Natalie Portman in Black Swan: This one's a little difficult, but you can get a black tutu, tank and white tights all at American Apparel. The most important part of this costume though, is the face makeup. It looks hard, but there are lots of tutorials on youtube. I really like this one, it's funny and a little over dramatic, but still gets the makeup done perfectly. Click here.
Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: Yes, I'm obsessed with this movie. If you're planning on being a hoe on Halloween anyway, why not pick a classic one, Viv of Pretty Woman. The dress might be hard to find but easy to improvise, big curly hair is necessary too.
Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft: This ones super easy and super hot. Black t-shirt, cargo shorts, french braid, and something like a garter with a fake gun in it to make it look really like her. It's a bad-ass costume.

Alicia Silverstone in Clueless: This ones a bit tricky, but if you can find an outfit like that you'd be a fool not to wear it on Halloween. There probably won't be any girls being Cher from Clueless, so why not be original.
Lady Gaga as a man: No girl has the balls to be the male Lady Gaga for Halloween. I know we all want to look cute and sexy, but if you don't care, I think being Lady Gaga's male alternate personality would be awesome.
Rihanna in S & M: If you get the big curly red hair people should most definitely know who you are, unless they might confuse you for Bobo the clown, but if you dress crazy sexy enough they'll know who you are. Na na na c'mon c'mon c'mon I like it like it....

Now if I do end up dressing up for Halloween, I will probably be dressed up as Beyonce in Single Ladies. Super easy costume. All you need is a black leotard, nude tights, high heels, big earrings and her hairstyle. It's easy and still fun. I hope everyone enjoys their Halloween. Get crazy!

rook + raven gallery opening, london

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the opening of Rook & Raven, a new alternative contemporary art gallery in SoHo, the heart of London's creative hub. I walked into a beautiful gallery filled with some of London's most artistic (and well dressed, might I add) young crowd. Waiters walked through the crowd serving fresh sushi on paint palettes, a bar in the back offered beer and champaign, and the crowd admired the art under the unique lighting it was displayed in. The gallery's opening exhibition, "You Rest, You Rust" displayed pieces from four artists: DAIN, Dale Marshall, Daniel Lumbini, and Penny. My favorites were New York based, DAIN, and neurosurgeon turned artist, Penny. DAIN's artwork reminded me of the works of pop-art icon, Andy Warhol. Bright colors, and some pop culture elements. You could spot some familiar faces in DAIN's collages. Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears' faces both appeared in the works he displayed at the Rook & Raven gallery. It was young and fun and definitely something I would love to see hanging in my apartment. I also really enjoyed Penny's artwork. Penny had different images on top of dollar bill backgrounds. My favorite piece that he featured was 'Cloud One', a classic image of an angel kissing another angel with a dollar bill plastered background. In a time when everyone's mind is on money, it makes perfect sense in a contemporary art gallery.

Today the gallery opened to the public. If you live in London, I strongly suggest you take a look inside Rook & Raven.

After both walking in Brazilian label, Auslander's, spring show back in June, the most um...intriguing

models in the industry, the ambiguous and A Hit of Sarah favorite, Andrej Pejic, and creepy looking

Zombie Boy, are both featured in Auslander's spring campaign. It's spring time in Brazil, lucky them.

Well, this has to be the most brilliant and weirdest idea I've ever heard of for a campaign, the brand

definitely got attention they may have not had before from the rest of the world. Aesthetically, I think

they both look good in the brand's clothing. I'd say it's a successful ad campaign. I actually quite like it.

editorials this month and last. That said, I'm in no way complaining about this, I'm a huge fan of the

collection. In the November issue of Harper's Bazaar Singapore you can see the collection photographed

MISSIN' GUY BOURDIN

Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) was on the of the most important and influential photographers

in the history of fashion photography. He made huge waves in the fashion world with his

seductive, provocative, and at times violent imagery. His work is often credited with being the

first to bring a real narrative to the world of fashion photography, something that now seems

almost intrinsic to the medium. While Bourdin may not be as Helmut Newton, his colleague at

Vogue Paris, it is certainly arguable that Bourdin’s work has had a more noticeable and lasting

influence on the current generation of fashion photographers. To this day you can still see striking

similarities between Bourdin’s work and the likes of Miles Aldridge, David LaChapelle and

Terry Richardson.

model girlfriend who we all hate right now, Anne Vyalitsyna, fall into this category. The Maroon 5
front man and his girlfriend posed in their birthday suits and a scarf (that is so obviously not
keeping them warm) for the cover of Vogue Russia. The editorial was eh. I wish there were more of

Spending this lazy Sunday cuddling up to watch some movies. Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette is one of my favorites.

Not for the plot nor for the actors, what I love about this film is the brilliant cinematography and costume design.

Makes me wish I was in pre-French revolution Versailles eating cakes with the Dauphine.

If I post exorbitant amounts of New York related posts for the next couple of months it's because I'm temporarily living in London and missing my home city of Manhattan. Regardless of the amazing setting of this shoot, I love the model, Lily Cole, just as much. She has escaped the lenses of fashion photography for the big screens of Hollywood and the classrooms at Cambridge University. This shoot for the October issue of Harper's Bazaar Turkey is her come back to the world of modeling. Koray Birand does an amazing job depicting the beauty of the city, the model and this season's clothing.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SPRING 2012 RTW

Lee Alexander McQueen's are shoes are tough to fill, literally and figuratively, but Sarah Burton seems to be totally comfortable in them. This season's collection was up to par with McQueen's previous works of wearable art. Each model looked like a goddess walking down the runway in the most beautiful and unique dresses and head pieces that could only belong to Sir McQueen. I loved every piece in this collection. Amazing collection.

PRETTY WOMAN

I obviously have been inspired by Pretty Woman lately ("you're not cool enough to shop here"), but it looks like I'm not the only one! In Lovecat Magazine's wonderful second issue, model, Nicole Trunfio, is featured in a Pretty Woman inspired editorial shot by photographer, Aram Bedrossian. I was waiting for someone to do this and finally it's been done. The photographs perfectly portray scenes from the iconic film, Pretty Woman. Well done, Lovecat.

DO OR DYE: DIP DYED & BLEACHED ENDS

So I'm well aware that dipped and bleached ends have been around for about a year or two now but only recently have I ever considered getting them. They're risky, but if they're done well they look (excuse my language) really fucking awesome. Because I have very curly hair I didn't think that I could ever rock them as well as wavy or straight haired girls but today I stumbled upon a photo of a curly haired girl with blue dip dyed ends and they looked great. You can do them yourself. There's actually a great tutorial on The Beauty Department or if you're not as good with your hands/afraid you'll fuck up like me and you happen to live in London there's BLEACH, which has gotten amazing reviews.

THE VIXEN: LARA STONE

Reaaaaaally loved Lara Stone's editorial for Vogue Japan's November issue. It's very rare to see a fashion editorial in black and white anymore, mainly because the point of editorials is to show off the clothing and color is obviously a necessary aspect of any garment. Top model, Lara Stone, looks stunning, in a sexy sort of demonic way, in this piece. I love the concept of the shoot. Great work.

"YOU'RE NOT COOL ENOUGH TO SHOP HERE"

Everyone remembers that scene in Pretty Women when Viv gets kicked out of the Rodeo Drive shop based on her appearance. That scene really upset me, as I'm sure it did most people. That is what makes this article by Australia's Herland Sun so infuriating. The Sun reports that customer, Keara O'Neill, went into GASP clothing store on Chapel Street (Australia) when a sales associate there treated her very rudely. He made comments on her size 8 frame and as she walked out of the store he shouted, "Have fun shopping at Supre... I knew you were a joke the minute you walked in."

As a former employee at a clothing store--- the Brooklyn Industries in Manhattan's SoHo, I was very shocked by this news report. Brooklyn Industries is a company that strongly believes that good customer service is important in retail and I completely agree. I love when I go to a store and am greeted by their employees, offered assistance, and ultimately purchasing something great. Unfortunately, you will not find this attitude in employees in other corporations. There was a time a friend and I entered Bergdorfs on an unexpected rainy New York day. We didn't have an umbrella and ran into the department store soaking wet. I cannot tell you how many stares of disgust I got from the sales women there, but at least they didn't add any rude comments or worse, kick me out. Treating someone who is shopping in your store poorly will result in a bad rep for the company. Trust me, people read and care about those yelp reviews.

O'Neill ended up writing a complaint to the company and according to the New York Daily News she got this response from area manager:

"Chris whom served you is a qualified stylist whom has a sixth sense for fashion, and Chris's only problem is that he is too good at what he does. People whom [sic] are talented generally do not tolerate having their time wasted, which is the reason you were provoked to leave the store."

This bothers me even more. Does this company not know the universal rule of the customer is always right? Apparently not. Luckily for them, after all of these articles written about them they probably won't have to worry about customers not only like O'Neill but just in general. Sassiness and retail are two things that just don't go together!

BALENCIAGA: DOING WHAT HASN'T BEEN DONE BEFORE

Nicolas Ghesquière's collection for Balenciaga was hands down one of the most original and unique ones I've yet to see this season. The silhouettes are ones Ghesquière reinvented from the Balenciaga archive, but modernized. He turned the geometric structures of Cristobal's former collections into a wearable urban collection. The shapes definitely make the collection stand out among others. The winged boots, the elongated bowler floppy hat combinations, the formed dresses, skirts, and blazers, and the giant pockets are all unique to the collection. There were lots of expectations for Ghesquière this season, and he gave us everything we wanted and more.
